Jean Asselborn meets the British Minister of State for Europe, David Lidington

On 21 January 2015, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, Jean Asselborn, met David Lidington for bilateral talks at the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs in Luxembourg.

The ministers took the opportunity to review the good bilateral relations between the two countries, as well as discussing current European political issues such as the negotiations regarding the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership.

During the meeting they also discussed preparations for Luxembourg’s upcoming presidency of the Council of the European Union which will begin in July 2015. Minister Asselborn and Minister Lidington had an exchange of views over which political priorities the Council should focus on.

In addition, the ministers spoke about the European debate in the United Kingdom and Britain’s wish to reform the functioning of the EU, in particular within the field of immigration.
